Taurus and Sagittarius: a quincunx
Taurus and Sagittarius are a fixed earth sign and a mutable fire sign. Signs five apart form a quincunx, also called an inconjunct, traditionally the most awkward angle. They differ in element and modality and share little common ground, so they often seem to speak different languages. That does not make a relationship impossible, but it calls for adjustment, patience and humour. Astrologers say quincunx pairs can learn a great deal from each other once they stop expecting the same things.
Taurus and Sagittarius in love
Taurus brings stability and warmth: a sense that there is time, that promises will be kept and that there will be something good to eat. Sagittarius brings optimism and adventure: plans for trips, big ideas and plenty of laughter. Fire and earth are traditionally seen as a challenging mix in love. Fire wants excitement and spontaneity, earth wants stability and a plan, so fire can find earth too cautious and earth can find fire too reckless. When it works, earth gives the ideas of fire a solid foundation, and fire brings warmth and adventure into the routines of earth. Patience with each other’s pace is the key. In our model, love scores 36%.
Taurus and Sagittarius as friends and colleagues
A fixed and a mutable sign balance stability and flexibility. The fixed sign provides consistency and stamina, the mutable sign adaptability and new ideas. As friends and colleagues they can complement each other well, although the fixed side may find the mutable side inconsistent, and the mutable side may find the fixed side stubborn. Friendship scores 40% and work 44% in our rule-based model. Work is the strongest of the three areas for this pair.
Where it can rub, and what helps
Taurus can dig in its heels and treat a request for change as a threat to its comfort. Sagittarius can be blunt and restless, and slow to commit to plans. Taurus needs a partner who is consistent and patient, and who does not push for quick decisions. Sagittarius needs freedom, honesty and a partner who enjoys exploring as much as they do.

How the score is calculated
The score is rule-based and fully transparent. It starts from the angle between the two signs, using the traditional aspects of astrology: a trine (four signs apart, same element) scores 90, a sextile (two apart) 80, the same sign (conjunction) 68, an opposition 62, a semi-sextile (neighbouring signs) 52, a square (three apart) 45 and a quincunx (five apart) 42. Small adjustments are then made for the element pair and the modality pair, separately for love, friendship and work. The overall score is the average of the three.
Elements and modalities
Traditionally, fire and air are said to feed each other, as are earth and water, while fire with water or earth with air is considered harder going. Two fire signs get a bonus for passion and friendship, two earth signs for work. The modality adjustment looks at how two signs handle action: two cardinal signs may compete for the lead, while a cardinal and a fixed sign tend to divide work well, as one starts and the other finishes. The tool lists every adjustment, so you can see where each point comes from.
What the score can and cannot tell you
The calculator compares Sun signs only. It does not use birth charts, so it says nothing about the Moon, Venus, the rising sign or anything else astrologers would look at for a full synastry. More importantly, astrology has no scientific basis: no study has shown that zodiac signs predict whether two people get along. Treat the score as entertainment and a fun way to talk about relationships. Real compatibility depends on communication, shared values and effort, not on birth dates.
Frequently asked questions
Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
By the traditional rules used here, signs of the same element (a trine), such as Aries and Leo or Taurus and Virgo, score highest, followed by sextiles such as Aries and Gemini.
Are Aries and Leo compatible?
Yes, by traditional rules they are one of the best matches: two fire signs four apart, forming a trine. Open the Aries and Leo page for the full breakdown.
Can two people with the same sign be compatible?
Yes. Same-sign pairs score in the middle range: they understand each other easily but also share the same weak spots.
Why is the score different on other websites?
There is no standard formula. This tool uses published, traditional rules and shows each step, so you can see exactly how the number is reached.
Does the calculator use my birth chart?
No. It only compares the two Sun signs. For your planetary positions, use the birth chart calculator.
