How to use
- 1Drag one or more photos (JPG, PNG, WebP) onto the page or click to choose them.
- 2Read the camera, lens, exposure, date, author and GPS details for each photo.
- 3Open the location on OpenStreetMap or expand “All tags” for every field.
- 4Click “Remove metadata & download”, or “Clean & download all” for several photos.
What EXIF data reveals
Cameras and phones embed metadata in every photo: the camera and lens model, exposure time, aperture, ISO, focal length, flash, the editing software, the owner or copyright fields and the exact date and time the picture was taken. Many phones also store GPS coordinates and altitude. The viewer reads EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC blocks and labels what it found, so you can see at a glance whether a photo carries location data.
Why remove photo metadata
A photo with GPS data can reveal where you live, work or where your children go to school. Large social networks usually strip EXIF on upload, but email attachments, messaging apps that send “original quality” files, cloud links, forums and online marketplaces often keep it. Removing metadata before you send or post a photo is a simple privacy habit — the tool highlights GPS in red and shows a warning when a location is present.
Lossless cleaning for JPEG
For JPEG files, the tool removes only the metadata segments and leaves the compressed image data untouched, so there is no quality loss and the file usually gets slightly smaller. PNG and WebP images are re-encoded through a canvas to drop their metadata. Cleaned files are saved with “-clean” added to the name. Everything runs in your browser; your photos are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I see the EXIF data of a photo?
Drop the photo onto this page. Camera, settings, date and location appear instantly, and “All tags” lists every metadata field.
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
Not for JPEG: only the metadata blocks are removed and the image data is kept as is. PNG and WebP are re-encoded.
Does iPhone store location in photos?
Yes, if Location Services is allowed for the Camera app. You can turn it off in Settings, or remove the location from each photo before sharing.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Metadata is read and removed entirely in your browser; files never leave your device.
