PDF to Word Converter

Extract the text of a PDF into an editable Word (.docx) document with paragraphs, headings and page breaks — the file never leaves your device.

Text, paragraphs and headings are transferred; images, tables, columns and complex layouts are approximated or skipped. The file never leaves your device. Image to text

This tool runs entirely in your browser; your data is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. 1Drop a PDF file or click to choose one.
  2. 2Choose whether to keep page breaks and original line breaks.
  3. 3Click “Convert to Word” and watch the page-by-page progress.
  4. 4Check the text preview and download the .docx file.

What gets converted

The tool reads the PDF’s text layer, joins lines back into paragraphs, marks lines set noticeably larger than the body text as Word headings (Heading 1–3) and, if you like, starts every PDF page on a new Word page. Words split by a hyphen at the end of a line are rejoined. Images, tables, multi-column layouts, fonts and colours are not reproduced or are only approximated — the goal is a clean, editable document, not a pixel-perfect copy.

Scanned PDFs need OCR

A PDF made by a scanner or a phone camera contains pictures of pages, not text. In that case the tool tells you that no selectable text was found. Convert the pages to images and run them through our image-to-text (OCR) tool instead. A quick test: if you can select and copy text in the PDF with your mouse, it will convert.

Private by design

Everything runs locally with the open-source pdf.js and docx libraries, which are downloaded only when you pick a file. Contracts, CVs, invoices and other sensitive documents are never uploaded to a server.

Tips for the best result

Single-column documents such as letters, reports, essays and theses convert best. Turn on “Keep original line breaks” for poems, addresses or lists where line structure matters; leave it off for running text so lines flow into proper paragraphs. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
