How the template is made
The photo is scaled according to the detail level and its colours are reduced to your chosen number with k-means. Smoothing then removes noise, and regions too small to paint are merged into their neighbours. Each region gets its colour number at its widest point; number 1 is the colour that covers most of the picture.
Tips for a good result
Sharp, well-lit photos with a simple background give the cleanest templates. For kids and beginners, 8–12 colours and low detail work well; experienced painters can use 18–24 colours and high detail. If regions look fragmented, raise the smoothing. The HEX codes in the key show the target shade when you mix your acrylics.
Printing and transferring to canvas
The SVG is a vector file, so lines stay sharp at any print size and you can edit it in a vector app. The print button fits the template and colour key on an A4 or A3 page. To move it onto canvas, trace with transfer paper or use the grid method. Your photo never leaves your device; everything runs in the browser.
