  • Rest your index fingers on the bumps of F and J; keep the other fingers on the home row (A S D F – J K L ;).
  • Let each finger press only the keys in its own column.
  • Don’t look at the keyboard — keep your eyes on the screen even when you make mistakes.
  • Focus on accuracy first (above 95%), then build speed; practise 10–15 minutes every day.
  • Sit upright, keep your wrists relaxed and hover them slightly; hit the space bar with your thumb.

How WPM is calculated

WPM (words per minute) counts correctly typed characters per minute divided by 5, since a standard “word” in typing tests is five keystrokes including spaces. CPM is characters per minute. Accuracy is the share of correctly typed characters, and errors counts the mistakes. Because only correct characters count toward WPM, typing fast with many errors does not raise your score. Pasting is disabled so results reflect real typing.

What is a good typing speed?

Many adults who type regularly fall around 35–45 WPM. 50–70 WPM is comfortably fast for office work, and above 80 WPM is fast; competitive typists exceed 100 WPM. Accuracy matters as much as speed: aim for at least 95% before pushing your WPM. Longer tests (3 or 5 minutes) give a steadier, more honest number than a 1-minute sprint.

How to type faster

Learn touch typing: rest your index fingers on the bumps of F and J, keep the other fingers on the home row, and let each finger press only the keys in its own column. Keep your eyes on the screen, not the keyboard, even when you make mistakes. Practise 10–15 minutes a day, focus on accuracy first, and keep your wrists relaxed and slightly raised. The texts are original practice sentences in English and other languages.

Frequently asked questions

Are my results saved?

Your last 20 results are saved only in this browser’s local storage, so you can track your progress. Use “Clear history” to delete them.

Why does a mistake lower my WPM?

Only correctly typed characters count toward WPM, so each error both costs time and adds nothing to the score.

What is the average typing speed?

Roughly 35–45 WPM for adults who type regularly. Professional typists often type 65–75 WPM or more.

Can I take the test in other languages?

Yes. Choose English, Turkish, German, Spanish, Arabic or Russian from the text language menu.
