How to use
- 1Choose the barcode type — EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, Code 128, Code 39 or ITF-14.
- 2Enter the number or text; for EAN-13 the check digit is added automatically.
- 3Adjust bar width, height, colours and whether the text is shown below.
- 4Download each as SVG or PNG — or enter one value per line (up to 60) and use “Download all (PNG)” to save them as separate PNG files.
Which barcode type to use
EAN-13 is the standard product barcode in most of the world, and UPC-A (12 digits) in the US and Canada; EAN-8 is for small packages. ITF-14 marks outer cartons and cases. Code 128 encodes letters, digits and symbols compactly and is common for shipping labels and internal tracking; Code 39 handles upper-case letters, digits and a few symbols and is still used in industry and for ID badges.
Check digits
EAN and UPC codes end in a check digit that lets scanners catch misreads. For EAN-13, the first 12 digits are multiplied alternately by 1 and 3, the products are added up, and the check digit is the number that brings the sum to the next multiple of 10. Enter 12 digits and the generator calculates the 13th for you.
Barcodes for retail need GS1 numbers
You can generate any barcode image here, but a product number that retailers and marketplaces accept must come from GS1: you license a company prefix from your national GS1 organisation and assign product numbers under it. Made-up numbers may clash with real products. For stock control, asset tags and internal labels, Code 128 or Code 39 with your own numbering works fine. Download SVG for printing — it stays sharp at any size.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use these barcodes on products I sell?
The images are free to use, but for retail you need a GS1-issued number. The generator does not assign or register numbers.
What is the difference between EAN-13 and UPC-A?
UPC-A has 12 digits and is used mainly in North America; EAN-13 has 13 digits. Scanners at checkouts read both.
SVG or PNG — which should I download?
SVG is vector and scales without blurring, best for print. PNG is a pixel image for documents and web pages.
Can I create many barcodes at once?
Yes. Enter one value per line (up to 60) to generate a grid, then download them all as separate PNG files with one click.
