How gross salary becomes net pay in Turkey

From the gross wage (brüt ücret) the employee pays 14% SGK social security and 1% unemployment insurance. What remains is the income tax base (GV matrahı), taxed on a cumulative, progressive scale for wages in 2026: 15% up to 190,000 TRY, 20% up to 400,000, 27% up to 1,500,000, 35% up to 5,300,000 and 40% above. Stamp duty of 0.759% is charged on the gross. The part of every salary equal to the minimum wage is exempt from both income tax and stamp duty, so everyone benefits from the exemption, not only minimum-wage earners.

Why net pay falls during the year

Turkish income tax is calculated on the base accumulated since January. Once the cumulative base crosses a bracket limit, the marginal rate rises and the same gross salary produces a lower net — often noticeable from mid-year for higher salaries. That is why the calculator shows a twelve-month table rather than a single figure, and why a job offer quoted as a monthly net amount needs a different gross each month. Net-to-gross mode solves for the gross required in each month separately.

2026 parameters and employer cost

The 2026 gross minimum wage is 33,030 TRY (28,075.50 TRY net) and SGK contributions are capped at a monthly base of 297,270 TRY. On top of the gross, the employer pays SGK at 21.75% plus 2% unemployment insurance; with the treasury incentive the SGK rate drops to 19.75% for most sectors or 16.75% for manufacturing. Every parameter, the last-updated date and the official sources are listed under the calculator. Disability allowances, private pension (BES), meal or transport allowances, bonuses and income from a previous employer are not included.

Frequently asked questions

How is net salary calculated in Turkey?

Deduct 14% SGK and 1% unemployment insurance from the gross, apply progressive income tax (15–40%) to the cumulative base and 0.759% stamp duty to the gross; the minimum-wage portion is exempt from both taxes.

What is the minimum wage in Turkey in 2026?

The 2026 minimum wage is 33,030 TRY gross per month, which is 28,075.50 TRY net.

Why is my net salary different every month?

Income tax is cumulative: when the year-to-date tax base enters a higher bracket, the rate rises and net pay drops. The monthly table shows when this happens.

How much does an employee cost the employer in Turkey?

The gross salary plus employer SGK (21.75%, or 19.75% / 16.75% with the incentive) and 2% unemployment insurance, both on the SGK base capped at 297,270 TRY.

Do foreigners working in Turkey pay the same taxes?

Foreign employees on a Turkish payroll are generally subject to the same SGK contributions and wage tax; social security agreements and special exemptions can change this, so check your situation with an adviser.
