How to use
- 1Paste or type your text.
- 2Keep “Remove accents” selected and tick the language options you need (e.g. ä → ae).
- 3Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
- 4For Turkish text typed without special letters, switch to “Restore Turkish characters”.
What the tool removes
Accented letters are decomposed into a base letter plus combining marks (Unicode NFD) and the marks are dropped: é, è, ê → e; ç → c; å → a; ő → o; ř → r. Letters that are not built from a base letter plus a mark are mapped explicitly: ø → o, æ → ae, œ → oe, ł → l, đ → d, ð → d, þ → th, ß → ss and Turkish dotless ı → i. Punctuation, digits, emoji and line breaks are left untouched.
Language-specific options
German umlauts can become ae, oe, ue (Müller → Mueller, the usual spelling in e-mail addresses and file names) instead of a plain a, o, u. Spanish ñ is a letter of its own and can be kept. Russian й is always kept because it is a separate letter; ё can be turned into е, and stress marks used in dictionaries and textbooks (моло́ко) are removed. For Arabic, the tashkeel — fatha, damma, kasra, sukun, shadda, tanween and the dagger alif — and the tatweel stretch character (ـ) are removed while hamza letters (أ إ آ ؤ ئ) stay intact.
Typical uses
Creating URL slugs and file names, preparing data for legacy systems or CSV imports that only accept ASCII, normalising names before de-duplicating a mailing list, making search keys accent-insensitive and cleaning text copied from PDFs. Everything runs locally in your browser; the text is never uploaded.
Restoring Turkish characters
The second mode does the opposite for Turkish: text typed without Turkish letters (cok guzel) is turned back into proper Turkish (çok güzel) using a frequency list of about 100,000 Turkish word forms. Ambiguous words such as su/şu are highlighted so you can pick the right spelling with a click.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove accents in Excel or Google Sheets?
Copy the column, paste it here, copy the result and paste it back. Each line stays on its own line, so rows keep their order.
Does it change ü to u or to ue?
By default ü → u. Tick the German option to get ue (and ä → ae, ö → oe, ß → ss).
Will it remove Arabic vowel marks?
Yes. Tashkeel and, optionally, the tatweel character are removed; the letters themselves, including hamza forms, are unchanged.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
