How to use
- 1Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right.
- 2Choose line or word comparison.
- 3View the result side by side or inline; changed words inside a line are highlighted.
- 4Optionally ignore whitespace or case differences.
What you can compare
Contract drafts that came back from the other party, edited articles, two versions of a price list, configuration files, translations or essays. Green marks what was added, red what was removed, and the similarity score summarises how much the texts overlap.
Line vs. word mode
Line mode suits code, lists and anything structured in lines: each line is one unit, and in changed lines the differing words are highlighted again. Word mode works better for flowing prose: the whole text is shown as one stream with insertions and deletions inline. The diff uses the Myers algorithm — the same approach as git — which finds the smallest set of changes.
Private by design
The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so confidential documents never leave your device. Texts with tens of thousands of lines are compared in a moment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I compare two Word documents?
Copy the text from each document and paste it into the two boxes. The tool compares text content, not formatting.
What does “ignore whitespace” do?
Leading/trailing spaces and runs of multiple spaces are not counted as changes — handy for indentation differences.
How is similarity calculated?
Twice the number of unchanged units (lines or words) divided by the total number of units in both texts.
Are my texts stored?
No. Nothing is uploaded; the texts are gone when you close the page.
