Capricorn and Pisces: a sextile
Capricorn and Pisces are a cardinal earth sign and a mutable water sign. Signs two apart form a sextile, one of the harmonious aspects in astrology. Their elements are compatible, fire with air or earth with water, so the two are said to understand each other easily and to enjoy each other’s company. The sextile is often described as an opportunity: the match flows well, but it grows strongest when both put in some active effort.
Capricorn and Pisces in love
Capricorn brings stability and commitment: plans are made, promises are kept and the future feels secure. Pisces brings tenderness and imagination: someone who listens, understands and makes everyday life feel a little magical. Earth and water are traditionally a nurturing match: water nourishes earth, and earth gives water a shape. Earth offers stability and practical care, water brings emotional depth and intuition, and together they are said to build a safe, warm and loyal bond. The traditional caution is that both can be cautious or withdrawn, so it helps to talk openly about needs instead of assuming. In our model, love scores 88%.
Capricorn and Pisces as friends and colleagues
A cardinal and a mutable sign tend to work together smoothly: the cardinal sign leads, the mutable sign adapts and fills in the gaps. As friends they enjoy variety and new plans. The traditional risk is that the mutable side goes along without saying what it really thinks, or that plans change too often to be completed. Friendship scores 84% and work 90% in our rule-based model. Work is the strongest of the three areas for this pair.
Where it can rub, and what helps
Capricorn can seem cool or too focused on work, and may put duty before feelings. Pisces can dodge conflict by going vague and may struggle to say what it really wants. Capricorn needs respect, reliability and a partner who takes its goals seriously. Pisces needs gentleness, emotional understanding and a partner who offers a safe harbour.

How the score is calculated
The score is rule-based and fully transparent. It starts from the angle between the two signs, using the traditional aspects of astrology: a trine (four signs apart, same element) scores 90, a sextile (two apart) 80, the same sign (conjunction) 68, an opposition 62, a semi-sextile (neighbouring signs) 52, a square (three apart) 45 and a quincunx (five apart) 42. Small adjustments are then made for the element pair and the modality pair, separately for love, friendship and work. The overall score is the average of the three.
Elements and modalities
Traditionally, fire and air are said to feed each other, as are earth and water, while fire with water or earth with air is considered harder going. Two fire signs get a bonus for passion and friendship, two earth signs for work. The modality adjustment looks at how two signs handle action: two cardinal signs may compete for the lead, while a cardinal and a fixed sign tend to divide work well, as one starts and the other finishes. The tool lists every adjustment, so you can see where each point comes from.
What the score can and cannot tell you
The calculator compares Sun signs only. It does not use birth charts, so it says nothing about the Moon, Venus, the rising sign or anything else astrologers would look at for a full synastry. More importantly, astrology has no scientific basis: no study has shown that zodiac signs predict whether two people get along. Treat the score as entertainment and a fun way to talk about relationships. Real compatibility depends on communication, shared values and effort, not on birth dates.
Frequently asked questions
Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
By the traditional rules used here, signs of the same element (a trine), such as Aries and Leo or Taurus and Virgo, score highest, followed by sextiles such as Aries and Gemini.
Are Aries and Leo compatible?
Yes, by traditional rules they are one of the best matches: two fire signs four apart, forming a trine. Open the Aries and Leo page for the full breakdown.
Can two people with the same sign be compatible?
Yes. Same-sign pairs score in the middle range: they understand each other easily but also share the same weak spots.
Why is the score different on other websites?
There is no standard formula. This tool uses published, traditional rules and shows each step, so you can see exactly how the number is reached.
Does the calculator use my birth chart?
No. It only compares the two Sun signs. For your planetary positions, use the birth chart calculator.
