IATA vs ICAO airport codes

The IATA code is the 3-letter code assigned by the International Air Transport Association — the one printed on tickets, bag tags and departure boards (LHR, JFK, DXB). The ICAO code is the 4-letter code from the International Civil Aviation Organization, used by pilots, air traffic control and weather reports such as METARs.
